7 Days to Die User Rating

This is a user submitted rating of 7 Days to Die by bebis.karingtopoulos on April 1, 2015, 6:13 a.m.

My experience with 7 Days to die in A10 build.(Yes still in Alpha but really doesn't look like a game in Alpha...)

I have owned this game since December 2014 right after the A10 release.I don't know or actually care how the game used to be, be played or look.(but tbh the looks was what stoped me from buying it earlier).I'm an "old" gamer..from arcades to the atari and sega consoles then to the allmighty PC.In my gaming history there have been only 3 games that I've spent massive ammount of time on and this is one of them...Note that 2 of 3 were MMORPGS (pay to play good old times...)

First of all let's talk about PRICE
I've got this in a steam sale costing me about 13€/copy since I got one for me and one for my brother.Simple math now..500hours/13€ = UBERPWNMEGAWIN.My brother is less enthousiastic and only has about 100hours but still solid vfm.

GAMESTYLE
My playtime is 60% single player and 40% multiplayer.I prefer playing solo or coop/part-coop rather than PvP.The point of each game mode is "try not to get f****d".Easier in Single player since you only have the zombies to fear but harder in MP when you play in a griefer/admin abusive/hack infested server. So choose your server wiselly.Once you get the whole idea of how zombies behave you can get yourself a prety solid base (and no i'm not talking about water floating base, never did that never will.)So far there is no end game..You can play a world for ever since it's generating randomly as you progress and move on the HUGE map.2 possible options atm.A set map named Navezgane (this one is limited and has boundaries) and a random gen that is completely open world.

BUILDING
You can do prety much whatever you want..You want an underwater base?Do it..Just be carefull of breaches coz water is coming in and it's going to be bad...You want an underground base?Do it...Just be carefull of how wide and deep you dig without support coz things might start raining down on you..And it hurts...Personally I find the quantity of materials pleasing (more notes bellow under MODS) .My advice is keep it simple and small. For you wanabe architects there is the creative mode where you can build whatever you like as long as you stick with the game physics that are just plain awesome.

CRAFTING
Nice looking crafting grid in your inventory with a list of recipes next to it.Drag and drop pictured materials, once you selected the desired recipe in yellowish colour, to make your first build of each item. After doing that just click the item name (now green) on the list to craft having the materials in your inventory.Weapons , building materials , general items..Majority of things you see in the game you can craft it (more under MODS).More than 300 recipes I think are adequate. You do not have the ability to craft everything at start.Scavenging will reward you with books that will teach you stuff. So luck-scavenging-books-?-profit!

SURVIVAL
The survival aspect is simply keep yourself well fed , hydrated and out of harm.Harm being infections, bleeding, stuns, broken legs, food poisoning etc.Zombies can infect you , stun you , get you to bleed or get you a strained leg (DAMN YOU SNEAKY CRAWLERS!).The rest you are pretty capable of doing yourself if you have suicidal tendencies and eat broken glass i.e.If you do not avoid being hungry, dehydrated and injured often then your game experience will change for the worst. The wellness system will reward you with extra HP and Stamina if you keep eating your vegies, drinking tea and keeping yourself away from harmfull stuff.BUT if you don't then HP and Stamina points will decrease.Default wellness is 100 (so are HP and Stam points) and can go up to 200 or drop down to 30 (I believe that's the lowest it goes not sure 100% though).30 HP and Stam points will only get you killed every few minutes since you are prety much a 1-2 hit kill and can't run long enough to save your life..(dogs have no stamina restriction..they run all the time...they are evil...they do not run to you to play..I used to love dogs...)

ZOMBIES
There are few types of zombies (more to come in future builds) that break down to 2 categories actually. The normal ones and the "special" ones..Normal ones have no abilities other that try to hit and kill you.Special ones on the other hand can be a bit of a nuisance since they have the ability to hit you from range (vomit attacks ftw) and cause some serious damage to your building.(Cop Zombie)Others can climb walls or start freaking out and call a whole horde on your doorstep("spider" zombie). In the "Special" category I also consider the dogs and the wasps since dogs ALWAYS run and wasps well...they fly...The AI is pretty solid imo.Yes in my 500 hours I have had 10-15 zombies stuck going round a large rock, bush or sign etc but it's so rare it's not worth mentioning further. They will destroy anything that is between you and them..ANYTHING.If they can't avoid it it's gone. The day/night cycle affects zombies if you want it to.Default is zombies shamble by day and become freaking Usain Bolt @ night. It's your choice to have it like that or have them shamble day/night (The Walking Dead style) or go hardcore and have WWZ zombies all the time..fun times!!Shambling zombies might look easy but when they are in numbers be afraid..Be VERY afraid..One stun can get you killed in a matter of seconds..(even with high armor and full HP).Unless capable and experienced try to keep a distance when dealing with hordes.Going Conan the barbarian against a horde can be VERY pleasing and fun when you get the hang of it.The "7th Day Hordes" which come knocking on your door every 7 days are a mix of every zombie in the game and as the days pass they become larger and larger (at a point I started killing them @ 00:15 and they stopped coming @ 11:00 the next morning..)They are "feral" hordes meaning the will find you WHEREVER you are..They will find you underground..underwater..behing 50layers of concrete walls..you are NOT safe..

MODS
This is maybe one of the coolest aspects of the game..Other than many skilled and imaginative moders that have released mods for the game even you can mess with it (I'm a complete idiot when it comes to software and I did it..).You see a nice looking stop sign you want to add to your front door but there is no way to get one..?MAKE A RECIPE AND CRAFT IT!There are mods out there that can add 200+ recipes and 100+ items to the game..Existing game items you couldn't craft or new player created items can be crafted..Building materials , utility , general items , weapons you name it...No it's not a build in thing but there are some nice editors out there that you can have much fun playing with.

FUTURE
The coming update seems that it's making the game even better..There are promises for even more additions..This game is progressing and it's nice to see indie devs sticking to developing the game they promised rather than taking the early access money and run.Progress might be slow for some people but it's there..(just watch some videos from each update and you'll see)People will complain for not having this or that because X or Y game has it..Please go play that game then and stop ruining this for the rest of us who like it the way it is..Sure there could be many things added but just because I like something doesn't mean you will too..The game belongs to the devs..Not to us..It's different to suggest something and to constantly bash the devs in forums for not doing something you want..

TIPS
Avoid watching famous youtuber vids to learn the game. They are total nubz and just play silly for the views .If you want something to laugh at then they are somehow usefull.Few people have decent vids you can actually learn something from and they do not have more than few hundred/ thousand subs.Another thing you can do to understand the game and make some test builds is to play on creative mode with or without zombies and get the hang of building/crafting.

P.S Watch WAB youtube reviews on the game.I couldn't agree more..
